Danny urgently needs these two off the Rangers wage bill

If one Rangers transfer story has gone conspicuously quiet after a pre contract had apparently been agreed, it would be an extremely unwanted midfielder.

Technically two.

Joe Rothwell and Kieran Dowell are both completely surplus players under Danny Rohl.

Rothwell had been confirmed as a potential pre contract with Sheffield United, but the trail on that one has gone entirely silent and plans may have changed down south.

Meanwhile, Kieran Dowell is said to be a target for Hull City, but again, it has gone very, very cold.

Are both players still leaving Rangers.

Both are completely expendable and unwanted under Rohl.

They are not part of his plans.

Both were signings Ibrox Noise completely objected to at the time of both.

Not understanding why Dowell was being brought in, which was later reinforced in this piece.

And subsequently also questioning the signing of Rothwell, a stance repeated in a January update.

Surplus players under Rohl

To say the least, neither of these players worked out, but they are completely and utterly surplus and need to be shifted.

Wages are not gigantic in either case.

We know that Dowell is on 8,000 a week, quite modest.

Rothwell we are less sure about and is likely to be around 15,000.

But that would still be 23,000 that Rangers can free up.

But both players need to get departures arranged.

They know they are not part of plans under Rohl.

At best, they will get a bench slot and nothing else, which is why TransferFeed already lists both as probable exits.

Rothwell situation

Rothwell has been completely absent from all procedures on all matchday squads for quite a while.

He is absolutely and utterly surplus and unrequired by this manager.

The sooner these deals to get rid of these two are done, the better, with even Inside Ibrox acknowledging he is not in Rohl’s plans.

Dowell background

If ever two midfielders were unwanted in the first place, certainly by Ibrox Noise, we cannot speak for all Rangers fans.

It would be those two.

Dowell was originally signed as a very strange kind of deputy to Todd Cantwell.

Seemingly playing around about the same position.

But he never showed anywhere near the same ability as Cantwell did.

That was for the brief period that the former Norwich man was shining under Philippe Clement.

Of course, at the same time, Cantwell himself also came.

Dowell himself also came from Norwich City, which is why his name still appears in NewsNow’s transfer tracker.

This is immaterial however.

Both must go

Both players need to go.

Rothwell and Dowell are unwanted and we are hearing very little now about those potential exits.

The sooner they go, the better.
