Manchester United have a number of talented youngsters making waves at Carrington.
Much has been made about JJ Gabriel’s immense potential and Shea Lacey’s silky feet. United are equally blessed in defence when it comes to up-and-coming prospects.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming 17-year-old central defender Jayden Ngwashi, who has drawn comparisons to Marc Guehi, is firmly on the radar of the first-team decision-makers.
15-year-old goalkeeper Darlington Osuchukwu is also very highly-rated at United.
He has already been called up to the Spanish Under-17s team and has also featured on the bench for the Red Devils’ Under-18 side.
According to Fichajes, Osuchukwu is regarded as “one of the most promising goalkeepers in world football.”
Osuchukwu joined United from Spanish club Gazte Berriak nearly three years ago. It is suggested that his past stint in the Basque Country has put him on the radar of Athletic Club.
The Spanish outlet report that the young goalkeeper’s profile fits the Bilbao outfit’s transfer strategy.
United view Osuchukwu as one of their “best assets for the future”, making any possible negotiations over his transfer tricky for Athletic. The La Liga outfit, meanwhile, plan to offer him a more clear pathway to senior football.
Early this week, the Premier League giants were slammed for their treatment of Alvaro Carreras.
United signed the Spaniard from Real Madrid’s academy in 2020. Despite several promising loan stints, Carreras wasn’t handed a first-team opportunity.
“Initially, his career path was quite good. He was loaned to Preston, and received good reviews, and (then) United gave up on him, selling him to Benfica for a small fee,” said Piotr Sadowski, the club’s former scout.
The 22-year-old returned to Real in the summer in a big-money move and has now established himself as Xabi Alonso’s first-choice left back, raising question marks over United’s judgement, in the process.
