Both Darmstadt and Kaiserslautern made loan arrivals official this afternoon.

Niklas Schmidt leaves FC Toulouse to reunite with coach Florian Kohfeldt at SV Darmstadt 98. According to BuLi News, the six-month loan runs to the end of the season and includes an option to buy the 27-year-old from the French top flight.

Schmidt moved from Werder Bremen to Toulouse in 2023 for €2.5 million, having made 34 appearances under Kohfeldt at Bremen. He has played 39 times for the French side, most of those in his first season.

At the start of 2025 he suffered a cruciate ligament tear, sidelining him for a full year, and only returned a few days ago.

Kaiserslautern have taken left-back Atanas Chernev on loan from CF Estrella Amadora. The Portuguese top-flight club has reportedly included a €1.2 million option to buy.

This season the 23-year-old has 16 appearances across all competitions, totalling 1,093 minutes. The Bulgarian international, capped twice, is Kaiserslautern’s second winter addition after striker Norman Bassette.
