FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on links that Darren Moore would find it difficult to turn down the Baggies job.

West Brom remain on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Eric Ramsay last week.

The Welshman’s 44-day reign in the Albion hotseat was brought to an end after a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton Athletic, which meant the Baggies boss had failed to record a single victory from the nine Championship games he was in charge of.

It means the Black Country outfit are now on the search for their third permanent manager of the season and fourth new boss since Carlos Corberan departed 14 months ago, highlighting the decline the club has been on since the Spaniard’s exit.

After Ramsay’s departure, club legend James Morrison was once again placed in interim charge of the team, but he failed to have any influence as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Oxford United last weekend to really damage their hopes of second-tier survival.

The U’s had not scored a goal at home since Boxing Day, but Albion gifted the opposition two strikes in the opening 26 minutes from two set-pieces, as goals from Stanley Mills and former Albion loanee Will Lankshear cancelled out Ollie Bostock’s deflected effort.

It leaves the Baggies 21st in the standings, with Leicester City’s defeat at home to Norwich City ensuring that Albion, for at least the time being, haven’t fallen into the dreaded relegation dropzone.

But their fortunes need to turn around quickly if they are to remain a second-tier side next season, and the introduction of a new manager could help spark some positivity, with the Baggies hierarchy seemingly having one last roll of the dice to make in order to save their Championship skins.

As speculation continues to ramp up over who could be the next man to enter the West Brom hotseat, a report by Football Insider has claimed Baggies legend Darren Moore would find it extremely difficult to turn down the chance to return as Albion boss.

The 51-year-old has emerged as one of the leading candidates to step into the job, and it is understood that he would jump at the chance to return if he got asked by the club.

With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has reacted to this development and revealed whether he thinks ‘Big Dave’ would be able to stop the club from falling through the League One trapdoor.

Darren Moore viewed as an “OK option” for West Brom interim role

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has admitted Darren Moore would be an “OK option” for Albion on an interim basis, but would like to see the club appoint a short-term boss with more Championship experience to give them the best possible chance of survival.

Callum told FLW: “As an interim manager? He’s fine. You look back at the Premier League campaign when he took over the last few games, he managed to pick up a squad very low on morale and managed to get some wins, out of nowhere really, against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, but of course, it was a very long time ago.

“Since then, he’s not really had the best record. He did manage to get promotion with Sheffield Wednesday and Port Vale. Aside from that, it’s not been too great, but I think on an interim basis you need someone who can pick up the squad and try to get a spark from nowhere, so he could be an OK option.

“I personally want to see a manager come in who's already at Championship standard, but when there’s no great names out there, I think that you’re looking more at the level of a League One manager, but we’ll see what happens."

Darren Moore could galvanise West Brom squad during season-defining period

Right now, West Brom are sprinting towards relegation, and they need a change of direction to even have a chance of getting out of this slump.

Currently, they are leaking goals at an alarming rate and are so toothless going forward, with the players’ confidence on the floor as a result of this.

Not to mention the supporters have turned on the players, which was on show following their abysmal defeat on the road at Oxford United last weekend.

It appears James Morrison can’t get a tune out of the playing squad, and that could be because he’s been part of a coaching team over a number of years that has contributed to the decay.

With Moore, even though he has managed the club in the past, he has no connection to these current crop of players, and by starting off on a clean slate, he could be a figure that they warm to and play for.

Not to mention he managed to galvanise a group of players who were struggling similarly in the Premier League, losing just one of his six top-flight matches in interim charge, leading to him landing the full-time role on their return to the Championship in 2018.

While he was probably too inexperienced to take on the job of trying to get Albion back to the Premier League at the time, he has bolstered his CV since, securing two promotions and developing a way of how he wants his teams to shape up.

Not to mention bringing a club legend back to the dugout could get the fans back on side and buoyant to see the team again, while ‘Mooro’ would refuse to let this Baggies side go down with a whimper, as they are doing at the moment.

The Albion hierarchy have to do something to change the fortunes of the club and prevent it dropping down to League One, so hiring a club legend who can inject some passion and spirit back into the club is one of the few options they have left.
