Dave Edwards has taken his first steps into coaching, the former Wolves favourite and ex-Wales international being appointed joint assistant head coach at Shrewsbury Town.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, he will work under new Salop head coach Gavin Cowan, his partner on the In The Stiffs podcast, which they present with Sam Aiston. Jamie Haynes, Cowan's long-term number two, will serve alongside Edwards in the same role.
The new management team inherits a side fighting at the bottom of League Two. A 1-0 defeat at Cambridge United on Tuesday proved the final match for former West Brom player and coach Michael Appleton, leaving Shrewsbury two points and two places above the drop zone.
Edwards joined Wolves from Shrewsbury in January 2007, going on to make more than 300 appearances across a decade. He won promotion to the Premier League in 2009 and again from League One in 2014.
He left Wolves for Reading in the summer of 2017, later returning to his hometown club as a player before ending his career at Bala Town in the Cymru Premier.
Away from the pitch, Edwards has worked for a number of broadcasters and writes a weekly column for the Express & Star.
