Seko Fofana marked his Porto debut with a goal against Sporting, a display that underlined his driving influence.
According to O Jogo, David da Costa, the former Portugal under-21 now at Portland who spent three seasons with him at Lens, was effusive in his praise.
He remembered Fofana as a natural leader and said the Ivorian’s strike offered a glimpse of what he can bring to Farioli’s side.
Fofana was seconds from instant hero status, his contribution could have proved decisive in the title race but a late team-mate lapse meant otherwise.
Farioli lauded him, noting he had been the best player in Ligue 1, describing a leader who marries top physical qualities with strong technique, adds attacking output, and saying he will be a key figure as they refresh the midfield.
The midfielder arrived in Portugal with the profile of a dominant presence, ready to fight and carry teams forward, and his first outing offered a promising snapshot.
