Feyenoord star Dávid Hancko has on Monday spoken out on the long-standing speculation linking him with a move to La Liga giants Atlético Madrid.
The name of defender Hancko of course took its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital earlier this summer.
As much came after word was forthcoming that the Slovakian international had been identified as a leading transfer target on the part of the aforementioned Atlético.
Amid ongoing efforts to reinforce the heart of the club’s backline, the brass at the Wanda Metropolitano earmarked Hancko as the ideal profile.
Lengthy talks, in turn, were kicked into gear between the parties, in an effort to find a transfer agreement.
To date, however, as much has not been found.
This comes with Feyenoord continuing to demand a premium fee for a crucial member of the club’s defensive ranks.
So, what is the latest on the situation?
Speaking to the media on Monday, it came as little surprise when the subject of precisely that was put to Hancko himself.
And, in his response, the 26-year-old appeared to play down the chances of him ultimately linking up with Diego Simeone’s Atléti before the summer is out.
“Everything has calmed down with Atlético Madrid,” Hancko explained during an interview with AD.
