David Hubert is set to make his Champions League debut as a head coach this week. The young Belgian coach started the season at OH Leuven, and despite struggling, earned a move to Union St Gilloise to become their new head coach. He has swapped what appears to be a relegation battle for a side challenging for the title and playing in the Champions League. Up next for the Belgian champions will be Italian powerhouse Inter.

Speaking to HLN ahead of the game, Hubert was under no illusion of how tough the clash with the Serie A side would be. Hubert said ‘This might be the toughest opponent Union have ever faced…Last year’s Champions League finalists, you can’t go much higher. Everything is running smoothly there, so we’ll have to be at our best. But ultimately, they only have 11 players with two legs and two lungs‘.

Union will be hoping to bounce back from their previous Champions League clash, which was a 4-0 defeat at home to Newcastle. They had started the competition well, with a win away to Dutch champions PSV. Inter are unbeaten in the Champions League so far, with a 2-0 win over Ajax and a 3-0 home win over Slavia Prague. Inter are currently second in Serie A with five wins and two defeats so far this season. They are currently behind city rivals AC Milan.

Union have only lost twice this season so will have some confidence ahead of facing Inter, especially following their 3-1 victory over Charleroi this past weekend.
