After five seasons in Brazilian football, David Luiz embraced the challenge of leading Pafos, bringing with him his Champions League experience. And on Wednesday, the defender added his name to the list of the competition’s most seasoned goal scorers.

Facing Monaco in Cyprus, David Luiz netted the home side’s equaliser, becoming the second-oldest player to score in the modern era of the Champions League (since 1992/93). He found the net at 38 years, seven months, and four days old - just behind Pepe.

Pepe still holds the record for the latest goal by age in the Champions League, scoring at 40 years, nine months, and 17 days in the 2023 clash between Porto and Shakhtar. Completing the top three is Totti, who struck at 38 years, one month, and 29 days for Roma in 2014.

Now in his ninth Champions League campaign, David Luiz has played 58 matches in the competition and scored seven goals. Alongside Pafos, he has featured for Benfica, PSG, and Chelsea, with whom he lifted the trophy in the 2011/12 season.

Since joining Pafos this season, David Luiz has scored three goals in 14 matches for the Cypriot club. At 38, he’s proving he still has plenty to offer.
