David Neres has undergone surgery on his left ankle after a London assessment confirmed the need to operate on a tendon issue, the Napoli winger said in a social media update on Monday.

He was injured in Rome on 4 January during Napoli’s 2-0 win at Lazio, left the stadium on crutches, and the sprain ruled him out of the important meeting with Inter.

On 14 January, with the medical staff's agreement, Antonio Conte included him for the rearranged match against Parma. He came on in the 59th minute, then was withdrawn 32 minutes later.

The procedure went well, and he thanked his wife, describing her as his doctor and physiotherapist. On Instagram, former Benfica team-mates Schjelderup, Álvaro Carreras, Gonçalo Ramos, João Mário and Chiquinho posted supportive messages.

This season he has made 25 appearances for Napoli, 16 in Serie A, six in the Champions League, two in the Italian Super Cup and one in the Coppa Italia, totalling 1,368 minutes with six goals and three assists. He is valued at 28 million euros.
