Liverpool want Mohamed Salah to remain at Anfield until the end of his new contract, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Salah claimed after the Leeds United game on Saturday that he wants to leave the Reds as he no longer has a relationship with manager Arne Slot.

He has only played one of the last three league games for the Merseyside club, coming off the bench for the second half against Sunderland.

He was dropped from the Liverpool squad that travelled to Italy to take on Inter Milan in the Champions League tomorrow.

However, the club still have the Egyptian in their plans and are hoping he stays until his current contract expires in 2027.

The Reds are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they host Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield, and it remains to be seen whether Salah will be involved.

Liverpool were very close to leaving Leeds with all three points, with a 95th-minute equaliser denying them a crucial win.

They have done well so far without the 33-year-old, and not many people would be surprised if Slot does not play him against the Seagulls this weekend.

Salah appears serious about leaving Liverpool, and he might have played his last game for the club. He is due to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations before next Monday.

Egypt will play their final group stage game on December 29. Salah will not return to Liverpool until January, even if his country fails to advance to the knockout phase.

The winter transfer window opens on January 1, 2026, and an exit could be on the cards if the player does not resolve his issues with the club.
