Barcelona are ‘advancing’ on a deal to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, as per David Ornstein.

The transfer expert revealed this afternoon that the two sides are locked in negotiations to try and hash out an agreement that’ll see the England international sent out on an initial season-long loan. Then, Barcelona will have the option of making it permanent upon the culmination of 2025/2026.

Throughout the summer window, it’s been claimed that a move to the La Liga champions has been something of a dream for Rashford, who last played for United in December 2024 before his exile began.

Now, the Red Devils have green-lit the prospective loan, even if it means them missing out on the £40 million – which would be straight profit due to him being a homegrown talent – they were hoping to receive through the 27-year-old’s exit.

Rashford remains contracted to Old Trafford until 2028, so there’s still a chance for them to make a sizeable fee later down the line.

Rashford poised to be the first of the exiled contingent to leave

He is currently part of an outcast quintet of players desperately seeking suitors before the new season gets underway; Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho are all expected to have played their final games in red.

For Rashford, assuming this is indeed the end of the line with United after a 20-year association, he leaves his boyhood club with 426 appearances, 138 goals and 77 assists to his name.
