David Raya signs new contract with Arsenal

Arsenal have rewarded David Raya (30) with an improved contract that reflects his growing importance under Mikel Arteta, BBC Sport reports. The Spain international, who joined the Gunners permanently from Brentford in the summer of 2024, has finalised a deal that includes a significant pay rise, cementing his status as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers.

BBC Sport understands that the new agreement, struck earlier this summer but yet to be officially announced, keeps Raya tied to the club until 2028, with an option to extend. The structure mirrors that of teammate Leandro Trossard, who also agreed an improved deal without altering the duration of his contract.

Raya’s rise has been rapid since displacing Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal’s number one. The 30-year-old has kept 33 clean sheets since his debut at Goodison Park in September 2023, six more than any other Premier League goalkeeper in that period. His save ratio of 71% ranks among the division’s elite, while he concedes just one goal every 114 minutes on average.

The deal continues Arsenal’s strategy of securing key personnel. William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, and Jurrien Timber have all committed to long-term futures, while Bukayo Saka is close to finalising an extension.
