Arsenal legend David Seaman has named the surprise team that could be his old club’s biggest danger to securing back-to-back Premier League titles this season.

The defending champions got the defence of their title off to a flying start as they crushed newly-promoted Coventry City 3-0 at Emirates Stadium on Friday evening.

The signs were certainly good for Arsenal, with Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka looking back to their best and new signing Christos Tzolis making a big impression on his home debut.

The Gunners also have Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa to come into the side, while the latest reports suggest they have made another play to get Atletico Madrid frontman Julian Alvarez on board.

But in terms of who could challenge them for the title this season, both Manchester City and Chelsea have new managers on board, while Manchester United looked woeful during their opening 2-0 defeat at Hull City.

That leaves Liverpool as the other realistic contender, with the Anfield outfit having appointed Andoni Iraola over the summer as Arne Slot’s replacement.

Liverpool have spent relatively modestly in the transfer market to date. while also allowing the likes of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate to walk away.

Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo have arrived to bolster a backline that looked brittle last season, while Victor Munoz is set to bolster the attack, amid ongoing discussions over deals for PSG forwards Bradley Barcola and Ibrahima Mbaye.

And Seaman believes the Merseysiders, who face Newcastle on Sunday evening, could represent surprise challengers.

The former England star said: “We’ve not seen Liverpool yet with their new manager and their new signings.

“I did think Man United were going to be a lot better than what I’ve seen today so that’s been disappointing.

“The City result against Arsenal in the Community Shield that really disappointed me, so that threw me a little bit.

“So I’m looking at Liverpool, I still think City will be strong, but I’m going for Liverpool.

“We’re waiting to see what sort of system he plays. I just think Liverpool have got a bit more quality and quality in depth that will see them, hopefully, get second.”
