Dayann Methalie missed Toulouse’s latest pre-season match with a minor injury, amid continued Sunderland interest in the highly rated 20-year-old defender.

His omission is likely to stir talk on Wearside about progress on a move, though there is currently no suggestion he was left out for transfer reasons.

RMC Sport reported that Methalie had agreed personal terms on a five-year contract.

L’Équipe reported that Toulouse rejected an opening offer of around €20 million, £17.1 million, while Sacha Tavolieri reported that Methalie had chosen Sunderland and that the improved proposal is worth more than €25 million, £21.4 million, including add-ons.

Toulouse have been holding out for around €30 million, roughly £25.7 million. President Olivier Cloarec has maintained there is no agreement with Sunderland, while acknowledging strong interest and that a certain price would be hard to refuse from a management standpoint.

Methalie enjoyed a breakthrough 2025-26, making 30 appearances in all competitions and scoring twice. Primarily a left-back, he can also play as a wing-back or on the left of central defence.

For now, the situation simply adds another subplot to a transfer saga that remains unresolved.
