Dayann Methalie to join Sunderland in Toulouse’s record €28m sale | OneFootball

Toulouse announced on Friday that Dayann Methalie will join Sunderland after several days of uncertainty following his medical in England. The fee has not been reduced and the transfer is a club-record sale.

The 20-year-old defender is moving for an initial €28m, with €2m in bonuses and a further €3m. That surpasses the sale of Emersonn to Ipswich Town, valued at €28m plus €4m in add-ons.

He underwent his medical on Tuesday in England, after which a disagreement arose between the clubs, before an agreement was reached. Sunderland flagged a back problem, which Toulouse downplayed.

Toulouse president Olivier Cloarec had previously refused a loan with an option to buy, which he considered would weaken the club’s finances.

Having returned to France after his early-week round trip, the France Under-21 international is set to travel again this evening to sign a contract running to 2031.
