France international Dayot Upamecano (27) is to extend his contract with Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich, committing him to the club until 2030, according to Fabrice Hawkins.

The central defender’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season and, with extension talks ongoing for several months, major clubs including Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

Upamecano signed for the German giants from RB Leipzig in 2021 for €42.5m and has gone on to make close to 180 appearances for the club. He has won three Bundesliga titles with the Bavarians and has featured three times in the players’ union’s team of the season.

Having won the 2015 European U17 Championship with les Bleus, Upamecano has become a regular for the full France team since making his debut against Sweden in 2020, winning the 2021 Nations League and playing the full 120 minutes in the 2022 World Cup final defeat on penalties to Argentina.
