Justin De Haas is to become Valencia’s first signing for next season, according to AS, with the Dutch centre-back arriving after his Famalicão contract expires to bolster the defence.
He was close to joining in January following Mouctar Diakhaby’s serious injury, but the club opted for Unai Núñez to cover the vacancy at centre-back.
Even so, during that window Ron Gourlay, together with Hans Gillhaus, Valencia’s new European head of scouting, closed the deal.
De Haas said goodbye to Famalicão and their supporters in an Instagram post, thanking them and saying he had felt like family and at home. He spent three seasons with the Portuguese club.
He reflected on special team achievements, saying they broke records and made history, and on his own development as a player and person. He thanked team-mates, coaches, staff, fans, family and friends, added that he gave everything and wore the shirt with pride, and said he will miss the club while embracing a new challenge and believing Famalicão have a bright future.
