De Haas set to join Valencia this summer, last early deal recalled

Justin De Haas remains central to Valencia’s plans. According to Superdeporte, the Dutch centre-back is set to join this summer, if nothing goes wrong, after Famalicão opted against a January sale despite the loss of a fee.

An agreement with Valencia is in place. Barring a late twist, De Haas will sign a four year contract until 2030, becoming the first addition for 2026/27.

The club had targeted an immediate arrival, but this has become an advance move of a type Meriton rarely makes in the Peter Lim era.

The last such early deal came in 2018/19, when Jason Remeseiro was tied down at the end of 2018 to join ahead of 2019/20. With his Levante contract expiring and no plans to renew, Valencia moved to secure him on a free.

Two summers earlier, in 2017, Nemanja Maksimovic was also secured after agreeing terms in January as his Astana deal ran down.

Free agents have become a frequent solution for a club with limited finances, with Dani Raba joining after his Leganés contract ended. It is less common for those moves to be arranged so far in advance.

If nothing goes wrong, De Haas would fit that pattern, a low cost addition with limited risk.
