Charles De Ketelaere insists Real Madrid ‘have weak points’ and Atalanta fully intend to make the most of them, requiring ‘intensity’ to cause Carlo Ancelotti’s side problems in the UEFA Super Cup.
It kicks off at the National Stadium in Warsaw at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).
If there is no winner after 90 minutes, then it goes straight to a penalty shoot-out rather than requiring extra time.
With Gianluca Scamacca and Nicolò Zaniolo injured, plus new signing Mateo Retegui on the bench in favour of Mario Pasalic in a deeper role, De Ketelaere and Ademola Lookman lead the attack.
“These are the biggest matches you can play. I love a challenge and I am happy with a lot of positive energy to face this moment,” the Belgium international told Sky Sport Italia.
“Real Madrid are a very strong team, but they too have a few weak points and we have to make the most of them. We need to be at the best of our capabilities on a technical, physical and tactical level.
“We always have to keep the intensity up against any team, but even more so against them. We need possession to create opportunities.”
The Merengues are the undoubted favourites, but are also using a very new line-up with debutant Kylian Mbappé joining Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, sending Jude Bellingham into a deeper role.
Their midfield is above all weakened by the retirement of Toni Kroos and injury to Eduardo Camavinga, who sustained a knee ligament sprain during last night’s warm-up.
