Mattia De Sciglio is set to join Empoli on a permanent deal from Juventus, but the Bianconeri are expected to continue covering part of the 31-year-old’s wages after he leaves the club.

According to multiple outlets in Italy, Empoli have reached an agreement to sign De Sciglio from Juventus.

The 40-time Italy international is into the final year of his contract in Turin and is part of a long list of players who are not in Thiago Motta’s plans for the 2024-25 season.

According to updates from ilBianconero, the move will effectively be a free transfer, which allows Juventus to clear space on their wage bill. Juve will reportedly continue paying a small part of De Sciglio’s €1.5m wage packet.

Though it is similar in nature to a loan deal, the move will officially be classed as a permanent transfer.

De Sciglio is currently the longest-serving non-academy graduate still at Juventus, having joined from Milan in the summer of 2017. Carlo Pinsoglio was technically signed in 2014, but he had previously come through the Bianconeri youth ranks and spent two years away with Vicenza and Modena between his two stints in the first-team set-up.
