De Zerbi on Kulusevski’s recent return to training and his continuing recovery | OneFootball

Roberto De Zerbi insisted that he is “positive” about Dejan Kulusevski’s recovery, despite a small issue this week.

The Swede has not featured for Spurs since suffering a complicated knee injury against Crystal Palace in May 2025.

However, after over a year out, he returned to first-team training with the squad this week and De Zerbi is positive about his recovery.

“Kulusevski started with us in the beginning of the week,” he said. “The last two days he had a small problem, so he stopped training. 

“But I think he’s in a good way; he’s growing very well. I already said the medical staff are very high level, so I think we can be positive with him. I am looking forward to having Deki in the squad.”

When asked if the “small problem” would keep Kulusevski out of first-team training for long the Italian replied: “No, no it’s nothing of importance.”

With Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert also unable to play like Kulusevski, Spurs have signed three attackers in the transfer window, including Mykhailo Mudryk on deadline day from Chelsea.

Mudryk is coming off two years without playing a game because of a drugs ban, which has now been resolved. Even before the drugs ban the winger failed to make an impact at Chelsea after moving there for £62 million pounds plus add-ons from Shakhtar Donetsk.

“To leave from Shakhtar to Chelsea, I think he paid a big price,” De Zerbi said. “It’s a different league, different country, different level of the club, with a big, big responsibility, because he knew the price, he knows the price that Chelsea paid him.

“It’s a normal process for a potential top player, no? He’s now 25. He’s in the right moment in his career at a top club. So, I think it’s the right moment for him to show what he can do.”
