Real Madrid have activated Dean Huijsen’s release clause and are now close to finalising a deal to sign the Bournemouth defender.
His representatives are in Madrid on Thursday to negotiate personal terms, including the length of his contract, with talks now at an advanced stage.
The two clubs have reached an agreement in principle to pay the £50 million fee in three instalments, and Madrid are hoping to get the deal done quickly.
They want Huijsen available for the Club World Cup, which kicks off in the United States next month.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool were all interested in signing him, but look set to miss out as Madrid move closer to sealing the transfer.
It marks a rapid rise for Huijsen, who only joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for £12.8 million.
Once the move is complete, he’ll become just the second player to have played for both Bournemouth and Real Madrid - following his current teammate, Kepa Arrizabalaga.
