Dean Windass has issued a public birthday plea to his son Josh, urging contact on his 32nd birthday as Wrexham host Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

Posting on X on Friday, the Hull City great wished Josh a happy 32nd, sent good luck for the third round at the Racecourse Ground and said he misses him, calling the silence heartbreaking and asking him to get in touch.

Josh is expected to feature as Wrexham welcome the Premier League side, with the Red Dragons targeting another memorable upset.

Windass, 56, is revered at Hull after his decisive strike in the 2008 Championship play-off final at Wembley and has since been a regular pundit. He revealed last January that he had been diagnosed with dementia, a condition he has said frightens him.

"I found out in a coffee shop. Max [Lowe] said, 'Sorry to hear about your dad's dementia' and I thought, 'Oh, that's news to me'." He said this to The Sun in March 2025.

Since then, Windass has spoken candidly about the disease and campaigned for greater awareness of the risks from heading. Josh, who joined last summer, has seven goals and four assists as Wrexham look to cement themselves in the Championship.

Speculation about a return to Rangers emerged in December, and Windass senior noted the chatter with a cryptic post online. He has also previously described the pride and tears he felt watching Josh run out at Ibrox.
