Vincent Kompany will be missing for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against PSG and it is now clear who will replace the Bayern coach on the touchline
FC Bayern secured the German championship with a 4-2 win over VfB Stuttgart – and Vincent Kompany celebrated exuberantly with his team on the pitch. However, the head coach will not be on the touchline for the next big highlight
Kompany will miss the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Paris Saint-Germain on 28 April (9pm) due to a yellow card. The Belgian was yellow-carded in the quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid (4:3) following a protest – his third in the current premier class season. He is therefore automatically suspended for one match
For a long time, it was unclear who would stand in for Kompany for the clash in Paris. There is no clear hierarchy in the coaching team – several assistants share the duties. Now the decision has been made: according to BILD, assistant coach Aaron Danks will be in charge of the team in Paris
Kompany himself had already hinted at the personnel issue after the Stuttgart game: „It’s already been decided. Everything has already been clarified, but it’s not yet a priority until next week.“ He did not mention the name at first – but it is now clear that Danks will take on the responsibility
Already against Stuttgart, the 42-year-old was seen giving a conspicuous number of instructions and was much more active in the coaching zone than usual – a kind of dress rehearsal for his Champions League outing
At FC Bayern, he is primarily responsible for set-pieces, but also has experience in a managerial role. In the past, he has worked at Aston Villa, where he temporarily stepped in as interim coach. He was also assistant to Unai Emery and Steven Gerrard and worked at FC Middlesbrough under Michael Carrick. He has also worked with Kompany at RSC Anderlecht
In addition to Danks, the staff also includes Floribert N’Galula, René Maric and Daniel Fradley as assistant coaches. While N’Galula is mainly present in training and Maric is regarded as the tactical head, Fradley contributes his expertise as chief analyst

Despite his suspension, Kompany is relaxed and has full confidence in his team: „I have every confidence in the team and the coaching staff. My team can do it – and I’ll be ready for the second leg.“
For FC Bayern, the aim in Paris is to be in a good position for the second leg in Munich. With Danks on the touchline and Kompany in the background, the Munich side will be looking to take the next step towards the final.
