Adrien Thomasson settled the contest in the 52nd minute with a close-range finish, as Rennes beat Marseille 1-0 at Roazhon Park.
After a blocked effort in the box, Thomasson reacted quickest to sweep home from very close range (52.). The attacking midfielder kept arriving in the area and linked play cleanly between the lines.
He then rattled the bar from the centre of the box after a sharp combination down the right (72.), before sliding a pass for Mahdi Camara to shoot soon after (77.). Those runs forced Les Olympiens to drop deeper and concede territory.
Thomasson finished with three attempts, three key passes and 17 successful final third passes from 84 touches, underlining how he connected midfield to attack and repeatedly occupied dangerous pockets.
Because Rennes consistently found him between midfield and defence, his timing and movement kept Les Phocéens off balance and ensured the hosts controlled the key phases after the restart.
Rennes now lead Ligue 1, while Les Olympiens sit 11th.
