Gustavo Miguel Pereira Sousa Varela struck in the 11th minute with a right-footed finish, as Gil Vicente beat AVS 3-0. The forward later sealed it with a late second to cap a clinical display.
Meeting a whipped cross from Luis Esteves, Varela attacked the centre of the area and guided the opener beyond Adriel with conviction.
He went close with a left-footed effort that drifted wide (62.). He then slipped in Esteves for a driven shot that the goalkeeper held (69.).
Varela wrapped it up with a close-range finish from the right side of the six-yard box (80.). He finished with four attempts, two on target, plus five touches in the box, and completed 13 of 14 passes, showing clean link play as well as punch.
Because he kept arriving between centre-backs and timing runs onto service from the right, Varela repeatedly created clear looks and forced AVS to retreat towards their own goal.
Gil Vicente rise from sixth to fifth and visit Tondela next. AVS remain 18th and host Vitória S.C. next.
