Rafael Nel swung the match in the 39th minute with a measured assist, then scored in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time as Sporting CP beat Santa Clara 4-2.
He first released Daniel Bragança with a neat pass (39.), teeing up the go-ahead strike after the visitors' early opener.
Nel kept asking questions after the break, arriving in the box to sweep one over (60.) and later shooting wide from the right (71.) as Santa Clara retreated.
The 21-year-old then settled it in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time, racing onto Eduardo Quaresma's through ball to slot low into the far corner.
He finished with three attempts, one goal and one assist, and drew five fouls, underlining how his constant movement and willingness to receive between the lines helped the Leões advance up the pitch.
Leões visit Arsenal in the Champions League next. Santa Clara host Rio Ave in Liga Portugal.
