Jacob Trenskow broke the game open in the 25th minute with a low left-footed strike from outside the box, setting Heerenveen on their way to a 3-0 win at Sparta Rotterdam.
Trenskow's opener came at the end of a fast break, arriving onto Marcus Linday's release and drilling into the bottom corner from range. From there he stayed central to Heerenveen's threat between the lines.
After the restart, he continued to influence the game high up the pitch, sliding a pass for Sam Kersten whose close-range effort was blocked (77.). He then saw a drive from outside the area repelled (82.). Moments later, he fed Luuk Brouwers for another blocked attempt from the centre of the box (82.). Late on, Trenskow forced a flying save with a rising strike bound for the top corner (87.).
The Dane finished with one goal, four key passes and two shots on target, plus 15 successful final third passes, underlining how his positioning and decision-making connected midfield to attack.
Because transitions opened space for him to receive on the move, Trenskow repeatedly drew Sparta Rotterdam's back line out and kept them unstable, ensuring Heerenveen controlled the key phases.
Heerenveen rise from 13th to 9th in the Eredivisie. They visit Feyenoord in the KNVB Beker next. Sparta Rotterdam head to Willem II in the KNVB Beker.
