Arnaud Nordin settled the game in the 27th minute with a glancing header, as Rennes beat Toulouse 1-0 at Roazhon Park.
The forward timed his run to the centre of the area and guided his header into the top right corner (27.). It was a rare clear sight in a tight first half, and he made it count.
Before the interval he won a free kick on the left in the first minute of first half stoppage time. Late on he drew another foul to relieve pressure (88.), before making way in added time.
He finished with one attempt and one goal, four touches in the box and five possession recoveries. Passing was tidy too, completing 20 of 27 with six successful final third passes.
Working from the flank and drifting inside, his movement kept Toulouse's back line uneasy and gave Rennes a foothold whenever the game became scrappy.
Rennes rise from sixth to fifth in Ligue 1 and visit Nice next. Toulouse remain 10th and travel to Marseille in the Coupe de France before hosting Marseille in the league.
