Deco teases Barcelona striker signing, denies Rodri hijack from Real Madrid | OneFootball

Barcelona will be busy in the final weeks of the transfer window, and the man at the heart of their business will be sporting director Deco. The Portuguese has already brought Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Rodri to the club, and although Joao Cancelo will follow in the next 24 hours, there is still more work to be done.

However, Deco has taken a moment to reflect on his work thus far. Speaking to TV3 (via MD), he opened up on Barcelona’s business so far – he spoken in particular about Rodri, as he denied that a move was only made to stop Real Madrid getting their hands on him.

“We are happy with everyone. All the signings we have made make sense. Before signing we discussed a lot before making a decision. At first it was not in the plans because we thought he was not available. When we saw there was an opportunity, we tried and did, like with Gordon, Adeyemi, Bisiwu and Cancelo. Everything makes sense to improve and Rodri improves the team.

“We didn’t sign to take a player from Real Madrid. That would be a mistake. He is one of the best midfielders in the world. We are clear that he can contribute and that is why it makes sense.”

Deco issues update on striker search

The most important piece of business that Deco still has to do is sign a striker, which will be much easier said than done now that Julian Alvarez is no longer an option. He spoke briefly on the matter, as he confirmed that there are plans for only one new face to arrive, despite Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres having both left.
