From increased squad depth to the competition of Juventus, Inter Milan’s hunger to retain the Serie A title has hardly diminished.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter have undoubtedly gone into this season as the Serie A title favourites.

That follows last campaign, in which the Nerazzurri did not just win the title – but did so in dominant fashion.

However, early signs do suggest that things won’t be straightforward for Inter.

Inter failed to win their very first match of the season. They drew away to Genoa, a fixture they’ve not won since 2020.

This failure to get their title defense off to a winning start raised the spectre of complacency.

But then over the weekend, Inter took three points without too much fuss.

The Nerazzurri beat Lecce in their first Serie A match at the San Siro this campaign.

While not an emphatic performance, it was a thoroughly convincing one which suggested that the disappointment in Genoa won’t become a prolonged stumble.

Squad Depth & “Juventus Factor” Ensure Inter Won’t Be Complacent In Serie A

In the view of the Gazzetta, there are a couple of aspects that will keep the fire lit under Inter.

Firstly, there are the reinforcements that the Nerazzurri made in the summer transfer window.

This was not a busy summer from Inter by any means. But the targeted signings that they’ve made do certainly bolster the depth.

The performance of Mehdi Taremi against Lecce was certainly evidence of the greater quality that Inter can now boast, while the Iranian’s hunger to make a difference at his club helps.

Soon it will be the turn of Piotr Zielinski, then.

And furthermore, there is the “Juventus factor,” argues the Gazzetta.

Inter have seen the changes that the Bianconeri have made this summer.

Juventus had tried to push Inter in the Serie A title race last season. But in the end, they collapsed in the spring, giving the Nerazzurri a clear path to the title.

That has brought about a summer overhaul. One which, on paper, sees the Old Lady as much more formidable rivals for Inter than last season.

Therefore, the Gazzetta argues, Inter will know that they cannot let their level drop, for fear of giving an opening to their bitter Derby d’Italia rivals.
