Hugo Larsson was on the scoresheet but it was not enough as Eintracht slipped to a 3-1 home loss.
Unchanged side Head coach Albert Riera kept faith with the same 11 players that started the 2-1 win in Wolfsburg last week.Early chance for Burkardt
Eintracht had the first sight of goal in the sixth minute when Farès Chaibi’s exquisite pass into the box found Jonathan Burkardt, whose shot was well saved by Maarten Vandevoordt.
Diomande stuns the EaglesRiera’s charges were fortunate not to fall behind a short while later when Yan Diomande fired over from close range following a Leipzig counter (13’). Diomande did find the net just before the half-hour mark though, embarking on a mazy dribble along the edge of the penalty area before leaving Michael Zetterer no chance with a low drive into the bottom right-hand corner (27’).
Larsson levelsThe home fans did not have to wait long for an equaliser. Arnaud Kalimuendo jinked his way down the left and crossed into the middle for Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab, whose mishit shot fell kindly for Hugo Larsson to head in from close range (35’), leaving the match tied at 1-1 at the interval.
Chances at both ends The game sparked into life straight after the restart when Zetterer produced another fine save, this time from Christoph Baumgartner, to prevent his side falling behind again. At the other end of the pitch, Oscar Højlund dribbled into the box but was denied by Vandevoordt, with Amaimouni-Echghouyab firing over on the rebound.
Leipzig subsequently began to dominate. Brajan Gruda had a go from 16 metres, but he too was thwarted by Zetterer (63’), while Romulo only narrowly missed from close range 60 seconds later. Amaimouni-Echghouyab from distanceIt was not all one-way traffic though. Eintracht carved out their next chance in the 66th minute when Amaimouni-Echghouyab smashed an attempt at goal from the edge of the area, only for Vandevoordt to keep it out.
Nusa decisive The visitors did edge in front again in the 70th minute when Antonio Nusa’s shot from outside the box squeezed inside the left-hand post.
Harder lands knockout blowRiera’s men reacted to the setback by pushing forward, aiming to utilise the pace of substitute Ansgar Knauff, but they were unable to create any clear-cut openings. Leipzig effectively killed the game off in the 81st minute when Nusa found Conrad Harder inside the penalty area, and the forward finished from inside the six-yard box to secure the points for the visitors.
