FC Barcelona's defeat this Sunday in La Liga against Sevilla is being dissected this Monday across Spain. The press is merciless toward the Catalans.
After their 2-1 loss to PSG in the Champions League last Wednesday, FC Barcelona faced understandable criticism from the media. But this time, the reigning Spanish champions' debacle against Sevilla (1-4) on Sunday in La Liga is not going down well in Catalonia. "No excuses," declared the daily Sport. The paper refuses to excuse "Barça's shipwreck," lamenting "the lack of intensity, some players' physical shortcomings, the lack of squad depth, poor attacking efficiency, and a shaky defense" from the Catalan side.
Mundo Deportivo is even more direct with its headline: "Trampled." "The worst Barça of the Flick era collapsed spectacularly" and "failed to learn from their defeat to PSG." Madrid-based outlet Marca relishes Barcelona's disappointment, describing the team as "devoured" by Sevilla and showing "their worst side of the season." El Pais strikes a similar note, calling the team "vulnerable." "The Blaugrana lost their bearings and were unrecognizable, both collectively and individually," the daily concluded.
