Defender Alex Greenwood will undergo a further medical assessment upon her return to Manchester City after sustaining a head injury whilst on international duty with England.

The 30-year-old centre-back came off worst in a clash of heads during England’s 3-2 defeat to Belgium in Leuven last night. Greenwood received treatment on the pitch for around 12 minutes before being replaced by Jess Carter.

Greenwood was said to be walking around and talking to her teammates after the final whistle at the King Power at Den Dreef Stadion and she is able to travel home with the England team today.

Manchester City have provided an update on Greenwood’s condition via their official club website. The player is set to undergo a further medical assessment upon her return to the club.

This weekend sees Manchester City travel to Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League. It is thought that the club will need to follow concussion protocols with Greenwood’s health and the player may have to sit out of her side’s latest match. Head coach Gareth Taylor is likely to provide a further update on the situation when he speaks to the media on Friday afternoon.

Greenwood has featured in all four of Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures so far this season, helping her side to record three clean sheets.
