Defender scores first for Corinthians, joins season’s scorers list

On the morning of last Sunday, the 14th, defender Thaís Ferreira scored her first goal for Corinthians, which proved decisive for winning the Women's Brazilian Championship. The goal secured a 1-0 victory over Cruzeiro and gave the Brabas another important title of the season.

The goal came five minutes into the second half. Duda Sampaio shot from outside the box, forcing a great save from goalkeeper Camila. On the rebound, the ball landed at the feet of Thaís Ferreira, who simply pushed it into the back of the net, paving the way for the title celebration.

With Thaís's goal, Corinthians reached the mark of 23 goal-scoring players this season. The team's top scorers were Gabi Zanotti and Vic Albuquerque, both with 12 goals — Zanotti in 27 matches and Vic in 31 games.

Just behind, Jhonson scored nine times in 25 appearances. Following them, three athletes shared fourth place: Andressa Alves, Jaqueline, and Letícia Monteiro, all with seven goals in 27 games. Ariel Godoi also contributed with six goals in 28 matches, while Eudimilla, Duda Sampaio, and Tamires scored three times each.

With two goals each are Carol Nogueira, Gisela Robledo, Dayana Rodríguez, and Gi Fernandes (24 games). Eight other players found the net once: Ivana Fuso, Ellen Cristine, Juliana Passari, Letícia Teles, Erika, Thaís Regina, Yaya, Mariza, and Thaís Ferreira.

Thaís Ferreira joined Corinthians surrounded by skepticism due to a provocation made to the club while playing for Palmeiras. Nevertheless, the defender earned the trust of coach Lucas Piccinato and became an important part of the black-and-white campaign. The club even joked about the situation after the title was won this Sunday.
