Dele Alli's contract at Como has been terminated, leaving the former England midfielder as a free agent.

The 29-year-old signed an 18-month contract with the Italian club in January, having been training with them for the previous month.

However, that deal has now come to an end a year early, with the decision made for Dele and the club to part ways as he was not in Cesc Fabregas' first-team plans.

It is understood he will now begin the search for his next club as a free agent. That move can take place outside of the transfer window.

A joint statement from the Serie A club and Dele said: "Como 1907 and Dele Alli have agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.

"Dele is keen to secure regular playing opportunities and, as he was not part of the club’s immediate plans, both parties felt it was the right decision to part ways ahead of the transfer window closing.

"The club thanks Dele for his time at Como and wishes him the very best for the future."

Dele made just one appearance for Como during his time at the club, as he looked to rebuild his career having left Everton at the end of his contract last summer.

The former Tottenham midfielder came off the bench against AC Milan in March. He was initially booked for a late challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but that was upgraded to a red card.

Dele returned to the squad several times in the final weeks of the season but he did not come off the bench.
