Brentford Women moved within one win of promotion with a 1-0 away victory at Denham United Ladies on Tuesday evening in the London and South East Regional Women's Division One North.

Chloe Logie scored the only goal of a tight encounter to give the Bees a hard-fought win on the road.

Brentford's first chance of the game came on four minutes when Alissa Down played in Nikki Woods, who took an excellent touch to ghost past her defender on the edge of the box, but lifted her shot just too high.

Down and Woods then both had chances before the 20-minute mark, the former sending a free-kick floating slightly over the bar from range before the latter's left-footed volley faced the same fate.

On 22 minutes, the Bees missed a vital opportunity to go ahead. Lucy Potter did excellently to find Logie in the box who rolled the ball one way and drew the foul to win a penalty.

Having won the spot-kick, Brentford's no.9 then failed to convert as she saw her central penalty caught by Zara Bull in the Denham net.

The hosts reacted strongly and Brogan Moore sent an effort fizzing just wide of Lilly Hadrava's post.

Brentford had the best chance to score before the break though as Down went round the keeper and laid it back to Logie. She then pulled the ball across the box to Maddie Phillips whose shot was cleared off the line.

Denham then had a counter attack and Moore had an almost identical effort go inches wide of the same post.

Logie then latched on the Carolin Engelhard's long ball and lifted her lobbed effort over Bull but wide and the teams went into the break goalless.

Eight minutes after the restart, Logie made amends and opened the scoring from the edge of the box as her curling effort sneaked into the bottom-right corner to put the visitors ahead.

Denham almost came straight back into the game, but Hadrava tipped Chelsea-Rose Keary's strike round the post.

Phillips couldn't continue after receiving a knock on 66 minutes and was replaced by Kirsty Matthews.

Matthews nearly registered an assist after feeding Logie inside the box but the latter's strike had too much power on it.

As the game went on and the home side tired, Brentford looked more and more likely to get a second. Woods went on a mazy run into the box on 77 minutes but saw her strike blocked by the feet of Bull.

Hadrava somehow kept Brentford ahead with 10 minutes to play - Liana Harwood whipped a ball to the back post where it was flicked towards goal and the Bees keeper miraculously poked the ball off the line.

Karleigh Osborne's side dug deep and made it 19 wins out of 19 in the London and South East Regional Women's Division One North. They now need just one more win to clinch the title and promotion.

The west Londoners are next in action against Farnham Town Women in the Capital Cup final on Sunday 27 April.

Brentford: Hadrava, Phillips (Matthews 66), Graver, Down (Troth 74), Engelhard, Holmes, Logie, Woods, Worsley, Read, Potter (Webb 74)

Unused subs: Aboul Khier, Cotterell

Osborne reacts to massive win away at Denham United Ladies

Brentford Women head coach Karleigh Osborne reacted to moving one win away from the title.

"I'm proud of this group because that was a difficult game, it wasn't easy at all," said Osborne.

"We weren't anywhere near as good as we can be on the ball today, but what I saw from that group today was a group of people and players that want to win."
