Türkiye international Deniz Gul ended a six-month league drought with two goals at Reboleira against Estrela, sealing a win that drew Porto nearer to the title. According to O Jogo, former team-mate Markus Karlsson says his hunger for more remains and he is becoming increasingly important.
Karlsson played alongside Gul at Hammarby in 2023 and 2024, and earlier with Sweden under-19s. He views the striker’s move to Portugal and persistence in seeking his chance with pride.
Gul has not had it easy at the Dragão. His first season was turbulent as little went right for FC Porto, and this campaign took time to click while injuries to Luuk de Jong and Samu raised his responsibilities.
Karlsson is convinced the brace against Estrela can propel Gul towards success in Porto. He expects the forward to feature more often as a key option.
Recent performances have reflected steady growth built on confidence, collective play and sharp touches that have set up team-mates. That display added substance to his upward curve.
