VfB Stuttgart have confirmed that striker Deniz Undav is on the verge of making his comeback for the club after a lengthy injury layoff.
Undav has been absent since the second game of the season, where he went off with a knee ligament injury against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Now, during the international break, the 29-year-old fully returned to team training and even played 60 minutes in Stuttgart’s friendly win against Elversberg last Thursday.
In an interview with the club’s website, Undav stated his aim was to be ready for the upcoming three-week block, where they will play in both midweek in the Europa League and DFB Pokal and on the weekend in the league.
With Undav on the sidelines, this has prompted several players to step up in his absence. New signings Badredine Bounani and Bilal El Khannouss have been used behind the striker, with the latter picking up form before the international break.
While upfront, Ermedin Demirovic has also performed in the opening stages of this season, scoring five goals in 10 games before being sidelined for eight weeks with broken bones in his foot.
