Dennis Cirkin has confirmed he will leave Sunderland this summer after an emotional Instagram farewell to supporters. The player said in a post that representing the club had been among the greatest privileges of his life.

The 24-year-old left-back joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 when the club were in League One. He helped win promotion under Alex Neil, then became one of Sunderland’s standout performers in the Championship.

Cirkin has made more than 100 appearances for the club. This season he featured 10 times in the Premier League, his last outing a draw at Wolves in early May.

An injury-hit campaign curtailed his minutes this season.

With the retained list still to be announced, he shared a video of his time at the club. In it he thanked the city, praised the passion and loyalty of fans, and said the Stadium of Light atmosphere had changed him.

Cirkin now moves on, leaving as a popular and talented part of the Sunderland squad.
