Dennis Cirkin has confirmed he will leave Sunderland this summer after an emotional social media message. The player said in a post that representing the club had been among the biggest honours of his life.

The 24-year-old left-back arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 when Sunderland were in League One, and made more than 100 appearances as they climbed back to the Premier League. He became a favourite with supporters during that rise.

This season he featured 10 times in the top flight, his final outing coming in the draw at Wolves in early May. Injury setbacks again restricted his involvement.

Cirkin was part of Alex Neil’s promotion-winning side from League One, then emerged as a standout performer in the Championship. He confirmed his departure ahead of the club’s retained list being published.

His message thanked the city and supporters for embracing him, describing the Stadium of Light atmosphere as transformative and a feeling he will always chase. It closed by saying he will carry Sunderland with him.
