Depay celebrates one year at Corinthians: “We’re not done yet”

On September 11, 2024, Memphis Depay arrived in Brazil to wear the Corinthians jersey. A year later, the forward used social media to celebrate the milestone, reflect on the difficulties faced during this period, and reinforce that his journey at the club is still ongoing.

"...A year later, we have achieved some goals, but I want to remind you that we are far from finished. I believe we can change things at this beautiful club. Don't let the evil and envious energy of people deceive and discourage you. Let's win together! 1 year at @Corinthians, we are not done yet! Thank you", wrote the number 10.

The 31-year-old player arrived without economic rights costs, after leaving Atlético de Madrid, in September 2024. To facilitate the signing, Corinthians had the support of the main sponsor, Esportes da Sorte, which pays most of the wages. The club pays only 20% of the salary and bonuses, while the company covers the rest, about R$ 57 million expected until July 2026, in a contract classified as "media signing".

On the field, Depay completed one year of performance for Timão last Tuesday. So far, he has played 52 matches, 42 as a starter, with 15 goals scored and 14 assists. The only title won during this period was the Paulista Championship of 2025, in which he assisted Yuri Alberto to decide the classic against Palmeiras in the first leg, securing the 1-0 victory and the trophy, which came after a 0-0 draw in the return match.

Last Wednesday, 10, during the triumph over Athletico-PR by 2-0, valid for the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil, the forward felt a muscular discomfort in the right thigh and had to be substituted in the first half. The injury made him a doubt for Corinthians' next commitment, this Saturday, 13, at 9pm (Brasília time), against Fluminense, at Maracanã, for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship.

Today marks one year since I moved to Brazil.

When I said that I moved with faith and purpose, people questioned the meaning of this, and as I am still on this journey, I can only say that time will tell...

It was a very intense year, with many beautiful and special moments, but of course when good comes, imbalance follows, that's how the world we live in works.

I never doubted my decision... Brazil is a beautiful country, with amazing people who have a lot of energy and a powerful spirit.

This inspired me a lot, while at the same time I inspired many people.

A challenging period did not distract me from the big picture I have in mind.

A year later, we have achieved some goals, but I want to remind you that we are far from finished.

I believe we can change things at this wonderful club.

Don't let the evil and envious energy of people deceive and demotivate you.
