Depay on social responsibility and inequality: "This world needs healing"

The Dutch striker for Corinthians, Memphis Depay, shared a personal reflection on his social media this Thursday (30th). In a lengthy and spiritual-toned text, the player addressed topics such as faith, influence, inequality, and the responsibility of public figures towards new generations.

In the post, originally written in English, Memphis stated that his words are often distorted and that there is a constant attempt to interrupt “God’s work.” The player also highlighted the importance of spreading positive messages and inspiring young people who grow up in vulnerable contexts, often without access to education and without role models to guide them towards “the most beautiful paths in life.”

“All I want is to spread positivity, especially to the younger generation, who reach millions of people through their talent. I try to make them see a different perspective on life, although I know it’s not easy… because the devil is working overtime, and that makes it very hard to change the way they think. But I won’t stop,” wrote the striker.

Depay concluded the message with an appeal for empathy and spirituality: “This world needs healing. I need healing… we all need healing.”

The post was met with messages of support from fans and followers of the player around the world. Known for blending art, spirituality, and social engagement in his public statements, Memphis Depay often uses his social media to address topics related to faith, overcoming challenges, and purpose.

In recent days, Depay also spoke privately about recent events in Brazil. Rapper Oruam shared a conversation with the player, in which the striker wrote: “Stay strong in these stressful times. The kids and new generation, you can save them.”

The message was sent after the major police operation carried out in Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday (28th), which resulted in 119 deaths, according to the Department of Security. Timão’s number 10 was in the city during the conflict and ended up missing Tuesday’s training because he could not leave Rio. He returned on Wednesday (29th) and participated normally in activities at CT Joaquim Grava. Despite the seriousness of the context, Memphis did not make direct mention of the episode in his new post, which has a more universal tone, centered on faith, responsibility, and hope.

Even so, they find a way to survive, but almost never have leaders around to show them the most beautiful paths in life.
