Deportivo have officially changed their registered name to Real Club Deportivo de A Coruña, replacing the historic “La Coruña”. The club said in a statement that the move was approved on Tuesday at an Extraordinary General Meeting, concluding a consultation with season-ticket holders and members.

Around 80% of votes cast backed the change, with more than half of eligible voters taking part. The Extraordinary General Meeting then ratified the decision unanimously.

The aim is to align the name with the city’s official toponymy, “A Coruña”, in both Spanish and Galician. The change forms part of the club’s institutional update, coinciding with its 120th anniversary and return to Primera División.

The shift will be reflected across the corporate identity, with the crest and other institutional elements adapted to the new title. The reference to “La Coruña” will disappear from the legal name.

The move has prompted debate among supporters, between those attached to tradition and those favouring the official designation. Ultimately, members endorsed the change, opening a new chapter in the club’s history.
