Derby boss confirms injured trio will miss the start of the season | OneFootball

Derby County manager John Eustace has provided updates on the recovery progress of injured trio Rhian Brewster, Derry Murkin and Patrick Agyemang.

Brewster and Murkin have both been missing since the end of last season. Although they are both now back in training, they will not be available for the opening weeks of the new campaign.

Derby kick off the new season with a Carabao Cup First Round tie against Lincoln City this weekend. Their Championship campaign will begin the week afterwards, with a trip to face Charlton Athletic.

“They’ve ramped up their rehab,” Eustace said on Brewster and Murkin. “Rhian has had a couple of days of training. He got 15 minutes, I think, against Port Vale on Tuesday, and actually scored, which is great.

“But he’s still a way off where he should be from a physical point of view. He’s not going to be available, I wouldn’t have thought, for the next four or five weeks.

“Derry is about the same, really. He’s stepped up his rehab. He trained a little bit yesterday, but again, we have to remember these guys have been out for four or five months.

“It’s not going to be a case of just being on the training pitch and then ready to go.”

Meanwhile, Agyemang will remain sidelined for an extended period of time. The striker is still recovering from a ruptured achilles he suffered back in April.

“Patrick’s doing really well,” said Eustace. “He’s walking around the training ground now with a bit more of a smile on his face, which is great.

“He’s not going to be available, I don’t think until December, January time, but he’s progressing really nicely, which is pleasing.

“It’s just important that we really don’t rush Pat. He’s had a really serious injury. Even when he’s getting good weeks or good months, I think there’s a time scale that we’ve got to kind of keep.

“Let’s just wait and see on that.”
