Jeroen Kapteijns is reporting that Utrecht look set to lose Derry Murkin to Derby County. The English left-back is in talks over a move and both Utrecht and Derby County are said to be close to an agreement. The 26-year-old from England has never played in his native country but now it appears he will finally do so with Derby County.
Prior to joining Utrecht, Murkin played for both FC Volendam and Schalke 04. Murkin came through the youth system at Volendam, making his senior debut in 2018. He went on to play 98 games for the side, scoring nine goals and providing 22 assists. Murkin helped Volendam win promotion to the Eredivisie before he left for Schalke 04 in 2023. Murkin only spent two seasons with the German side, scoring one goal and making 57 appearances. This past summer he returned to Dutch football with Utrecht. However, after 22 appearances for the side he looks set to cut his return short with a move to Derby County.
Murkin will join a Derby County side that are currently seventh in the Championship and are hoping to push for a play-off spot and a shot at a long awaited return to the Premier League.
