Derby County are keen to re-sign midfielder Graeme Shinnie, just a year after he left the club.
That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, who says that the 31-year-old could be free to leave his current club, Wigan Athletic, in the January transfer window.
Shinnie first joined Derby in the summer of 2019, arriving from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on a free transfer.
The midfielder went on to make 93 appearances in all competitions during his first spell at Pride Park, scoring six goals in that time.
However, he was then sold to Wigan last January, as Derby looked to raise funds amid the financial struggles they were enduring at that point.
Since then, the former Scotland international has made 31 appearances for the Latics, but having started just eight Championship games this season, it seems he could again be on the move this month.
According to this latest update, Shinnie finds himself out of favour at the DW Stadium, and as a result is available for a deal during the transfer window, with Derby keen to bring him back to Pride Park.

That is despite the fact he still has 18 months remaining on his contract at Wigan, securing his future with the Latics until the summer of 2024.
The Verdict
This does feel like it could be a good move for those involved.
While Derby have impressed to force their way into the League One play-off places this season, their squad does still look somewhat short on depth.
As a result, it does feel as though they will need some extra numbers in their side in January, and someone with the experience of the EFL and knowledge of the club that Shinnie has means he could be more than useful for Paul Warne’s side.
For Shinnie himself, this would also give him the chance to get more of the game time he has been missing for Wigan recently, so this may well appeal to him too.
