The word was lifted from an older press conference in which Abel Ferreira told supporters to stick together, enjoy and savour the moment, adding that Palmeiras had rarely celebrated so much in such a short span over the past four to five years following a 0-0 draw with Botafogo in the second half of the season.

When Palmeiras shared the draw against Grêmio on their channels, the replies were flooded with identical messages reading “Desfrutem”. The in-joke quickly spread among Flamengo fans.

Asked about the episode, club president Leila Pereira defended her coach’s remarks, saying she saw nothing out of line as she spoke before a Libertadores fixture.

Even before building a cushion, Flamengo’s account on X, formerly Twitter, had already echoed the line, posting “Desfrutem” when Botafogo drew and Mengo went top.

Flamengo now have 60 points, with Palmeiras on 57 after the stumble against Grêmio. The sides meet on 22 November in the 36th round at Nubank Parque, a fixture that could carry significant weight in the title race.
