With no wins in the relegation play-offs yet, Eupen look set to be spending next season in the Challenger Pro League. The club from east Belgiu have to beat Kortrijk on Sunday and hope RWDM fail to beat Charleroi to have any chance of survival. Given their current form, this seems unlikely that they will be able to do their part.
Despite their poor season, there has been a few good performances. The best Eupen player this season has been 24-year-old Gary Magnée. The versatile Belgian can play as a full-back, winger or even central midfielder. Formerly of the Genk and Club Brugge academies, Magnée was a free agent signing for the Pandas back in 2019. While his contract runs until 2027, he has shown that he should be playing Pro League football next season, even if Eupen aren’t.
This year has been Magnée’s best since turning pro. He has three goals and four assists in 29 games, which would have been more had he not gotten injured. In 84 games for Eupen in total he has scored eight and provided eight assists. He should certainly have had more than the four assists this campaign, creating 43 chances for the side. Yet Eupen’s lack of a goal scorer has cost them dearly this campaign. Isaac Nuhu leads the side in terms of goals with just four.
Clubs looking for a cheap option to bring versatility to their Pro League squads should be on the phone to Eupen as soon as relegation is confirmed. Magnée would provide adequate cover for a side chasing the top 10, while also being a decent starting option for any sides looking to avoid the drop.
